Meet the Founder

Hi, I'm Ella, the curator behind The Obsidian Library. I launched this site in 2025 as a home for curious minds exploring the transformative power of books, critical thinking, and creative expression. The name is a nod to obsidian stone, volcanic glass known for its sharpness and clarity. Our reviews aim to provide precisely that: sharp analysis and clear insights to help you choose your next read with intention.

I believe that words shape worlds, and our core mission is simple: to make reading cool again. Reading is so important; it builds essential life skills like problem-solving, empathy, and effective communication, and it is hard to do enough of it in today’s world. My background in competitive speech and debate, and a decade of work in a consultative capacity, have equipped me with a rigorous approach to evaluating text. I apply this to every book we review on the site, crafting detailed overviews focused on life lessons, major takeaways, and content considerations. I share these explorations to help us all find great books and rediscover the joy of reading together.

This library is a space for discovery. Thank you for being here. I hope you'll not only find books you love but also rediscover the power of reading that connects us all.

Happy exploring!
